The process

Every project starts with a surface and a context — a facade, a festival, a development, a brand story — and asks what is already there to be revealed. From that reading the collective scopes the work: concept and curation, artist selection, production and engineering, permits and logistics, delivery.

The five platforms carry the disciplines, but a single team handles production across all of them. It means one point of contact can move from a museum commission to a festival art programme to a limited edition without changing hands.

02

What the collective makes

Permanent and temporary commissions. Museum and institutional exhibitions. Public-art programmes and festival art direction. Brand collaborations delivered as public art rather than advertising. Limited editions, prints and contemporary azulejo. Curation, research and the production spine that makes all of it deliverable.

The collective has worked with UNESCO, the Council of the European Union, museums and foundations such as MAAT, and brands from Hennessy and MINI to Super Bock and Al Nassr.

03

The team

Around fifty people in Lisbon carry the group — producers, curators, engineers, legal and logistics — one shared spine under five programmes. Alexandre Farto (Vhils) is founder and artistic director; he holds the curatorial line across everything the house delivers.

Filomena Rainho leads the group as CEO, and Pauline Foessel — co-founder of Underdogs — is the group's head curator. Around them, a permanent production team moves from museum commission to festival to edition without changing hands: the same people who carved the first Lisbon walls deliver in Paris, Giza or Brussels.
